A 14-year-old Clay County student, angry at his older brother, fabricated a fake text thread about bringing a gun to school, screenshotted it, and submitted it via the Fortify FL app in an attempt to frame his brother and disrupt school operations; the student has since been arrested on a felony charge for making a false report of a firearm, while Psychologist Justin D’Arienzo explained that some students may believe they won’t face consequences due to a developmental mindset called the “personal fable”—“The reality is, bad things can happen to anyone,” he said.
