Even men benefit from marriage counseling

Why is it that men are more reluctant to partake in marriage counseling, oftentimes turning to a professional as a last resort?  It is clear that marriages have their ups and downs and we all know that the key to a successful relationship is communication – a key benefit that marital therapy offers.

Dr. Justin D’Arienzo, a board certified clinical psychologist practicing in Jacksonville, FL, provides professional marital counseling. Dr. D’Arienzo works with couples to get their relationship back on track and improve communication. In 2009, divorce rates in the South were higher than divorce rates in the North, according to US Census data (U.S. Census Bureau, 2010). Florida is more at risk for divorce, a problem that is growing in the U.S., with 18.5 percent of the population separated or divorced.

The best way to address communication and other issues in marriage is with marital therapy.  Dr. Justin D’Arienzo works to cut out the taboo behind marriage counseling, making it okay for men to initiate this resource BEFORE there is a problem. A marriage is an ongoing process that requires ongoing care and maintenance. Knowing this, better communication can save a relationship and Dr. D’Arienzo’s guidance can get you there.

Communication is such an important component of marriage.  Interestingly, women predominantly seek marital therapy because of communication issues, while men are more concerned with emotional affection (Doss 2004). This illuminates some of the disparities regarding reasons to use marriage counseling. Men are less concerned with communication, while it is the greatest concern for women. Dr. D’Arienzo bridges the gap between these disparities and works with couples to reach a holistic solution. “Helping couples realize the how to connect and communicate with each other is central to my role with couples” says Dr. D’Arienzo. Men should feel comfortable in attempting to make their marriage work. It is a process and Dr. D’Arienzo has the tools and means to guide you and your spouse toward better communication and better solutions.

Dr. D’Arienzo is sensitive to the reluctance of some men, and works to help them feel more comfortable as they build their communicative skills with their spouse. Each case is unique and Dr. D’Arienzo ensures a customized treatment approach that gives your relationship the attention it needs. He is there every step of the way to make sure everyone is comfortable and ready to meet the challenges of a relationship. Marriage counseling should not be thought of as a last resort, but a part of the process. Dr. D’Arienzo is ready to help make your marriage work so that you can enjoy a happy and prosperous relationship for years to come.  Dr. D’Arienzo’s office is convenient and discreet. The office environment is warm and crisp, conducive to a relaxed and open discussion.
