Psychological Counseling and Therapy for Parents, Teens, and Children

For those exceptional times of need in your life or the life of someone you love, we are here to provide psychological counseling and therapy for parents, teens, and children. Sometimes we need a little help getting through a difficult time or a situation we do not fully understand. Sometimes reaching out to a professional for guidance is just what we need, whether it be a little guidance or just confirmation that we are doing the right thing.

Finding a psychologist, therapist, or counselor that is competent and qualified to treat parents, teens, and children can be challenging. At D’Arienzo Psychological Group, we pride ourselves on employing several well-respected and expertly-trained mental health professionals from which to choose.

We help with parenting problems, creating discipline strategies, helping you and your child with separation anxiety, nightmares, or school phobias. Maybe your teen has recently tested positive for marijuana or another drug or has begun to have behavioral problems at school. We can help with all of these problems and more.

Based on my experience as a private practice psychologist, the prevailing problems parents bring their teens and children to see me for are problems related to drug use or alcohol use, finding non-medication strategies for ADHD, resolving laziness and the “failure to launch syndrome” for late teens and young adults, and improving academic or athletic performance with sports psychological strategies. Families come to us for family therapy to resolve disagreements over family businesses or past rivalries or hurts. Regarding children, our practice has two highly qualified therapists, Dr. Dawn Dirito, LCSW and Mr. Joe Zichi, LCSW. These two providers specialize in a host of issues related to children, such as, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, problems with sleeping, behavioral problems such as oppositional defiance disorder or conduct disorder, eating disorders, ADHD, and OCD.

All of us at D’Arienzo Psychological Group welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family, teens and children. Helping you improve your lives is our life’s work and we believe that you will feel like you made the right choice in working with a professional at D’Arienzo Psychological Group. If you have any questions, we can be reached at our Jacksonville office at 904-379-8094.

We ensure we have open appointments each week for new patients and clients. Don’t wait another day. Contact us today!

When a student makes a threat at school what do you do

When a Student Makes a Threat at School, What Do You Do? When a student makes a threat within a school environment, it’s a critical moment that demands a swift, comprehensive, and nuanced response. As psychologists, it’s clear that such situations are complex and involve numerous factors, including the mental health of the student, the safety of the school community, and legal considerations. Here are key steps schools should take in response to a threat: Immediate Action and Assessment
Ensure Immediate Safety: The first priority is to ensure the safety of all students and staff. This may involve securing the area, notifying security personnel, and possibly even a temporary lockdown, depending on the nature and severity of the threat. Evaluate the Threat: It’s essential to quickly assess the credibility and specificity of the threat. This involves determining whether the student has the means, motive, and opportunity to carry out the threat. Professionals trained in threat assessment should be involved in this process.
Involving the Right Resources. Mental Health Evaluation: A critical next step is to have the student evaluated by a mental health professional. This evaluation can help determine the underlying issues contributing to the threat, such as emotional distress, psychological disorders, or external pressures. Collaboration with Law Enforcement: In cases where the threat is deemed credible and specific, it’s crucial to involve law enforcement agencies. They can provide additional security, guidance, and ensure that any legal requirements are met.
