Before a marriage can occur in Tennessee,  you must obtain a marriage license from the County Clerk. The fee is $97.50. However, the county courthouse will reduce your fee to $37.50 if the couple completes a Premarital Preparation Course. Here’s How it Works:

  • Here are the required items that you will need for your marriage license appointment:
  • Proof of birthdate. You must be 18 or older to apply for a marriage license. If you are under 18, additional requirements depend on the county you plan to get married in. (Visit your respective county courthouse to find out the specific requirements.)
  • Social security number. (You do not need a physical card present).
  • Both parties must show up to their appointment together.
  • Payment. The cost of a Tennessee Marriage License is generally $97.50. The courthouse will reduce your fee to $37.50 if you present a course completion certificate. You must present the physical copy that we will send you via snail mail.
