The Bumpy Road to Parenting a Teen

Jenny Lehman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Anxiety specialist at D’Arienzo Psychology. In her most recent video, she discusses the importance of giving adolescents space to form their own identity as they transition from middle school to later adolescence. Teens will start to form an “essential self” and might even start to develop different views than their parents. It is important to give teenagers the space to start to form a separate identity. This might result in teens pushing away from their parents, but it is a crucial time for them to form their own ideas on the world around them. They are starting to transition from children to young adults. Parents need to be there for their teens and support them during their big life changes. It can be hard enough to be a teenager today.
